The charming city of Gallipoli, also known as “the Pearl of the Ionian Sea”, is 40 minutes’ drive from our Holiday park. The city is divided in two areas: the Old town, rich in churches and ancient buildings, and the New Town.
The majestic Angevin Castle is one of the main attractions, built by the Angevins to defend the city and the port. Near the castle you can find the Greek Fountain with its bas-reliefs representing the metamorphosis of Dorce, Biblide and Salamanca.
The Sant’Agata Church must be mentioned among the most beautiful churches, with its elegant façade decorated in Gallipoli’s baroque style. The sacred statue of Sant’Angata, patron saint of the city, is kept inside the church.
Other must-see places are the church of Santa Maria della Purità (1664), the Sanctuary of Santa Maria al Canneto and the bridge (dating back to the 17th century) that links the old to the new town.
